Project: Deep Sea No.1 (Lingshui 17-2 Gas Field Development Project)

Time of completion: June 2021

Project introduction: As China’s first ultra-deep water (1,500m) gas field, “Deep Sea No.1” is located in Lingshui, China. About 150km southeast of Sanya, Hainan with water depth ranges from 1,220m to 1,560m. The designed gas production capacity and commercial gas export capacity is 3.25 billion cubic meters per annum and 3 billion cubic meters per annum respectively. The scope of work includes the design, construction and installation/laying of one semi-submersible production and storage platform, one subsea production system, 17 submarine pipelines, 11 umbilicals, and other facilities.

Project highlights: The core facility of the project, known as the “Deep Sea No.1 Energy Station”, is the world’s first 100,000 tons deepwater semi-submersible production and storage platform, in which three advanced technologies in the international level and thirteen in the national level are adopted for the first time and its design fatigue life could exceed 150 years. Under the stringent standards, the station can withstand extreme weather conditions like super typhoons unseen in a century and deliver the promise of “no docking in 30 years”.

COOEC completed the construction of the “Deep Sea No.1 Energy Station” in only 21 months. The final assembly, loading and precision control has reached the world-leading level and many gaps in the construction techniques for 1,500m water depth have been filled, setting notable records of “China Speed”, “China Precision” and “China Depth”.

Project: Liuhua11-1/4-1 Oilfields Continued Development Project

Time of completion:  Sep 2024

Project introduction: Liuhua11-1/4-1 oilfields are located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Liuhua11-1 oilfield is located in about 220km southeast of Hong Kong, of which the water depth is about 305-324m. Liuhua4-1 oilfield is located in about 215km of Hong Kong, of which the water depth is about 260-300m. The main facilities consist of the following:

A new 4 legs fixed LH11-1 DPP (“Haiji-2”), Water Depth:324m

A new 60,000 tons cylindrical LH11-1 FPSO (“Haikui No.1”), Water Depth:312m

One flexible pipeline and subsea cable from LH11-1 DPP to LH11-1 FPSO

One flexible pipeline from existing bridging manifold to LH11-1 DPP

Existing LH4-1 subsea cable tie back to LH11-1 DPP by lengthening

Existing LH4-1 umbilical rebuilt and tie back to LH11-1 DPP

Project highlights: Liuhua11-1/4-1 Oilfields Continued Development Project is the first project combining a deepwater fixed platform with cylindrical FPSO with average water depth of 320m in the world, which is accomplished by COOEC as the EPCI contractor independently.
The total weight of LH11-1 DPP Platform is over 50,000 tons. The deepwater jacket “Haiji-2” is nearly 37,000 tons with water depth of 324m, which is No.7 of the world deepwater jacket. A digital Health Management System is applied in “Haiji-2”, which will be used for daily inspection and maintenance of substructure after the platform being in-service.
The total weight of LH11-1 cylindrical FPSO(“Haikui No.1”) is nearly 37,000 tons with water depth of 312m, which is No.3 of the world cylindrical FPSO.
These two facilities both have a 30-year design fatigue life and could survive from ultra-strong typhoon once-in-a-century.

Project: Lufeng Oilfields Regional Development Project

Time of completion: December 2022

Project introduction: This project located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, consists of two drilling and production platforms and a subsea production system. The core facility of the project is Lufeng 15-1 jacket “Haiji-1”, which is 302 meters high and weighs 30,000 tons.

Project highlights: Deepwater jacket “Haiji-1” , the first 300m deepwater jacket in Asia, is designed to withstand extreme sea states with a return period of 100 years. COOEC has overcome many challenges associated with strong internal waves, highly consolidated soil in the continental slope zone, large sand waves and sand ridges, super-large structures in position and the stability of super-large X-braced structures. It has employed more than ten innovative technologies including but not limited to the overall design of deepwater jackets, the design and construction of stepped mud pads and independent launching trusses, the lifting of large-size, wide-span, heavy structures involving multiple cranes, and digital twin-based operation and maintenance, embracing all-round improvement in the areas of basic theory, structure type/form, design concept, material selection, construction technique, operation and maintenance.

Project: Liuhua 16-2 FPSO EPCI Project

Time of completion: July 2021

Project introduction: Liuhua 16-2 FPSO (“HYSY119”) EPCI project is the first deepwater oil field development independently implemented by COOEC as EPCI contractor, which is located in Liuhua, China, about 240km southeast of Hong Kong, with water depth from 404m to 428m. The scope of work includes:

150,000 tons FPSO including one SIT type SPM

4 x steel pipeline(70km)

6 x flexible pipeline(10km)

8 x subsea cable(112km)

3 x umbilical(38km)

3 x SPS / 26 x Subsea Production Tree

SPDU, SDU, flying lead & jumper

Project highlights: ”HYSY119” FPSO is the first self-developed oil field in water depth of more than 400m, and it is also the first single point without release under typhoon condition. It is the first time for COOEC to carry out EPCI contract for FPSO(including SIT type SPM), and it is the first time to carry out installation and pre-commissioning fully underwater equipment in deepwater oil field.

Project: Petrobras P67/P70 FPSO EPC Project

Time of completion: P67: May 2018; P70: December 2019

Project introduction: The Petrobras FPSO Project is located in the Santos Basin, Brazil in the southeast of the South Atlantic Ocean, about 300 kilometers away from Sao Paulo, where the water depth is about 2,188m. The scope of work includes the construction of six topsides and a number of small functional modules of two FPSO vessels, the integration/assembly of all modules into two FPSO vessels (each FPSO has 18 modules with a total weight of about 50,000 tons) and the commissioning and towing of the two FPSO vessels.

Project highlights: Petrobras P67/P70 FPSO Project is the first project delivered by COOEC as an independent FPSO EPC contractor and one of the foreign FPSO projects that involves the largest work load, highest technical complexity and most stringent technical requirements. During the execution of this project, COOEC has developed more than 190 innovative techniques and processes and obtained more than 40 national patents. The delivery of FPSO vessels P67 and P70 enable COOEC to provide services together with the other international FPSO EPC contractors. The project of P70 has been recognized as one of China’s “Top Ten Innovation Projects in 2019”.

Project: Liwan 3-1 Gas Field Project

Time of completion: June 2013

Project introduction: Liwan 3-1 gas field, jointly developed by CNOOC and Husky Energy, is China’s first deepwater gas field. It is located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, about 250km to southeast of Hong Kong, where the water depth ranges between 1,350m and 1,500m. A jacket weighing about 30,000 tons and a central platform weighing about 32,000 tons were constructed in 190m deep water and connected to the subsea production facilities at depths of 1,350-1,500m through a 6 inch submarine pipeline. Natural gas was transferred to the onshore LNG terminal on Zhuhai Gaolan Island through a 30 inch submarine pipeline.

Project highlights: Liwan 3-1 gas field is China’s first deepwater gas field with water depth of more than 1,000m. It is regarded as a marking of COOEC marching towards the deepwater field. During the execution of this project, COOEC independently developed the technology for the overall hoisting and weight transfer/lowering of 30,000 tons modules, used tower frames for the lifting and installation of large modules for the first time, and independently completed the design of the loadout, transport and offshore float-over installation of 30,000 tons modules for the first time, making a large number of achievements in installation design.

Project: Liuhua 11-1 Oilfield Project

Time of completion: May 1996

Project introduction: Liuhua 11-1 project mainly comprises floating drilling/production system (FPS), subsea production system, submarine pipelines, permanent single-point mooring system with internal turret, and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

Project highlights:  Liuhua 11-1 oilfield is the first deepwater oilfield in China and the reef limestone oilfield with the largest geologic reserves in China.

Project: Brunei BSP Project

Time of completion: May 2015

Project introduction: BSP Project, the first project undertaken by Qingdao Yard of COOEC from Shell, consists of a jacket, a module and associated steel pile water string. The Al-alloy aircraft deck is a feature of the project. It is located in Brunei which plays an important role in global energy production. As the world’s fourth largest exporter of natural gas and the third largest producer of crude oil in Southeast Asia, Brunei plays an important role in the international market.

Project highlights: The excellence and successful operation of the project has promoted the stable internationalization progress of COOEC and improved the reputation of COOEC in the international market, helping establish a good partnership with Shell.

Onshore Oil & Gas

Project: Uganda Kingfisher Oil Field EPC3 Production Facilities

Time of completion: June 2025

Project introduction:

Scope of work: FEED, EPCI of 5 Well Pads, Central Process Facilities(capacity of 40,000 bbls/day), Pipelines and etc.

Project highlights: 

1. COOEC Plays a leading role in design, optimize design solutions, introduce the “VSP” management system, improve management efficiency, effectively solve the impact of cross regional, time difference, and multi-party participation in the project, and ensure the normal operation of the project. Through data collection and 3D model integration, the VSP system can provide full engineering stage data support and model support for the subsequent construction and operation of intelligent oilfields in Uganda.

2. COOEC makes full efforts to practice localization, build the “localization” brand of CNOOC, and enhance the company’s overseas influence.

  The IU contract promises a localization ratio of up to 66%;

  Directly or indirectly employing over 1,000 local workers to promote community economic development;

  Build roads for the community, donate books, etc., and establish a win-win community relationship;

  Localization work has received recognition from PAU multiple times.

3. As of May 23, 2024, the milestone of total 3 million safe working hours has been successfully achieved.

Project: Zhuhai LNG Terminal Project Phase II 

Time of completion: September 2024

Project introduction: Zhuhai LNG Terminal Project Phase II is expanded upon the foundation of the phase I project, with an expansion volume of 3.5 million tons per year. After expansion, the Zhuhai LNG terminal will have a total capacity of 7 million tons per year. COOEC undertakes the EPCIC of 5 full-containment concrete LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 270,000 cubic meter each.

Project highlights: Zhuhai LNG Terminal Project Phase II is the first storage tank with the largest capacity in the world of 270,000 cubic meters, which is undertaken by COOEC and independently designed by CGTank® core storage tank technology of CNOOC. The project is located in an area with a high seismic fortification level, currently making it one of the most complex geological conditions and the most challenging seismic design for liquefied natural gas storage tank projects in China.

Project: Tangshan LNG Terminal Project Phase I

Time of completion: June 2023

Project introduction: Tangshan LNG Terminal Project is designed with a receiving unloading capacity of 12 million tons per year. The project is divided into three phases, with the 1st phase of four 200,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks and related supporting facilities. The scope of work includes design management, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, acceptance, and other related services for jetty 3#, the upper facilities of the trestle, the four 200,000 cubic meter full containment concrete LNG storage tanks, and the terminal supporting facilities .

Project highlights: Tangshan LNG Terminal Project achieved an impressive performance of 8.67 million man-hours without any accidents. Through initiatives such as the innovative fully automatic welding technology for the inner tanks of LNG storage tanks, the project was successfully commissioned, achieving four major breakthroughs.

  After connecting the unloading arms of the first ship, the low-pressure and high-pressure compressors were successfully started in 45 hours to achieve BOG recovery, and the flare was extinguished within 59 hours. Both the BOG recovery startup time and flare extinguish time broke industry records.

 The pre-cooling process of the 3# storage tank took only 41 hours, creating the shortest record in the history of pre-cooling of 200,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank in China.

 The ship fulfilled padding LNG into the the largest diameter (42″) of low-pressure export header pipeline domestic during in port time, making it the first LNG terminal in China to have the conditions for liquid export before departure of the first barge.

  It takes totally 122 hours from the first ship’s berthing to departure, a significant reduction of 214 hours compared to the original plan.

Project: KONIAMBO Nickel Mine Project

Time of completion: November 2010

Project introduction: The owner of this nickel mine project is KONIAMBO Nickel SAS. The mine was designed and constructed as a modular plant and COOEC undertook the shop design, procurement and onshore construction of 17 modules with total weight around 40,000 tons, among which the largest module weighs more than 5,000 tons. These modules were all constructed on the non-slipway soft foundation at Qingdao Yard and delivered in four shipments to the New Caledonia Island (8,334km from Qingdao) for assembly.

Project highlights: During the execution, COOEC completed large-scale lateral loadout of modules using SPMTs, successfully assembled the modules delivered to the project site and used the DNV software in dynamic risk management for the first time.

Project: SHELL SDA Project

Time of completion: August 2017

Project introduction: SHELL SDA Project is located in PERNIS Factory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and involves 10 modules in total, namely, 5 core process modules and 5 pipe rack modules. It is 6,272 tons in total, including 4,800m2 heat spraying aluminum and 32,000m steam hot oil heat-tracing. Almost all the pipelines involve heat insulation and European standards are adopted.

Project highlights: The successful handover of the project opens the door to the European market for COOEC.

Project: LNG Canada Project

Time of completion: March 2023

Project introduction: The Canada LNG project, located in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada, is the energy project that receives the largest investment in Canada’s history. Two LNG trains with a total annual production capacity of 13.0 million tons are planned to be put into operation in Phase I. COOEC undertakes the construction of 35 modules with a total weight of about 178,830 tons for Phase I project, including 19 core process modules, among which the largest module weighs 10,000 tons.

Project highlights: LNG Canada Project is the first project whose core process modules and pipe gallery modules are constructed in an integrated way, maximizing the degree of integration, reducing the workload of on-site installation by half, and facilitating progress control. COOEC has creatively adopted the techniques for dual-system hoisting of heavy deck panels and final assembly and closure using SPMTs and employed the new NBG (no backing gas) welding technique on a large scale for the first time in the world. It also has developed innovative technologies for the lifting and 4D visual construction of super-large structures and greatly improved its capability in integrated construction of super-large LNG modular plants.

Project: LH11-1/4-1 Decommissioning

Time of completion: 2024

Project introduction: LH11-1/4-1 Oilfield locates at Pearl River Mouth Basin, about 220km southeast of HK. It produces from subsea production trees to one FPS and one FPSO. The plan is to decommissioned the FPS and FPSO before installing the new DPP and FPSO.

Project: Chevron Topside Decommissioning

Time of completion: 2017

Project introduction: COOEC’s first international offshore decommissioning project, 4 topsides were decommissioned in only 12 days at Gulf of Thailand, in water depth of 70 meters.

Scope of work:

4 x topside de-commissioning, recovery, transportation & unloading

Topside Specification: YAWA module (277.66t), JKWB module (550t), FUWL module (436.8t), FUWM module (380t)

Project:Deepwater IFUB (Umbilical) Repair

Time of completion: 2023

Project introduction: April 2023, an umbilical was found pulled out of SDA-UTA and fell to nearby seabed in deepwater gasfield. The UTH, EFL and OFL were found damaged and the production were temporary suspended. Emergency repair work was required in water depth about 520m.

Scope of work:

       Deepwater umbilical, UTH, EFL, OFL offshore recycling, assessment, repair, replacement, test and re-installation.

Project: HK Offshore Met Mast Decommissioning

Time of completion: 2022.11

Project introduction: COOEC’s first suction piles offshore decommissioning project. This project use a self-elevating vessel for lifting. The structure was dismantled on vessel deck. The worksite is located in Hong Kong. The water depth is 28.7m.

Scope of work:

> Engineering design, procurement and onshore fabrication.

> Offshore removal, transportation, offloading etc.

> The total weight is about 1,056 tons, and the height is 78m.

Project highlights:

> The first suction piles decommissioning project in China.

Project: CHEVRON TFPSO Decommissioning

Time of completion: 2021

Project introduction: COOEC’s first FPSO disconnection, towing and subsea facilities  decommissioning project. The worksite is located at Gulf of Thailand. The water depth is 73.7m.

Scope of work:

> Engineering design, procurement and onshore fabrication.

> The 137,000 tons FPSO was disconnected from Tantawan oil field and towing to Singapore.

> The subsea facilities include: 5 x flexible riser, 2 x umbilical, 6 x mooring chain, 2 x mid-water buoy and 4 x gravity base.

Project highlights: 

> COOEC’s first oversea FPSO disconnection, towing and subsea facilities decommissioning project.

Clean Energy

Project:  CNOOC GUANLAN

Time of completion:June 2023

Project introduction: As China’s first deep-sea floating wind power turbine platform, Guanlan has a capacity of 7.25 MW, an overall height of more than 200m and a total draft weight of 11,000 tons, with the water depth of 120m. The annual power generation of the wind turbine can reach 22 million kilowatt hours. Through the dynamic submarine cable, it can save nearly 10 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 22,000 tons per year.

Project highlights: Guanlan is China’s first floating wind power turbine platform with a working sea area of more than 100km from the coastline and a water depth of more than 100m. It is also the world’s first semi-submersible deep-sea wind power turbine platform that supplies power to offshore oil and gas fields and has the worst marine environment, which poses a huge challenge to the platform design. Through technological innovations such as optimizing the platform scale and adding efficient damping structures, the platform capable of resisting the maximum 17-level super typhoon. The tilt angle is only about 10 degrees in extreme environment, and it can ensure the safety of the wind turbine at a wind speed of 84 m/s.

Project: Enping 15-1 Oilfield Group Regional Development Project (CCUS)

Time of completion: November 2023

Project introduction: The Enping 15-1 Oilfield Group joint development project has built four new platforms EP15-1CEP, EP20-4DPP, EP10-2WHPA, EP20-5WHPA, four new double-layer subsea pipelines with a total length of 100km, 57km new submarine/umbilical cables. It is also the first offshore carbon dioxide capture and storage project in China.

Project highlights: COOEC realized the offshore demonstration application of CCUS, and completed the Enping 15-1 carbon dioxide storage project, which was successfully put into operation in 2023. With the first offshore carbon dioxide storage demonstration project in China, the carbon dioxide associated with the oil field can be captured and treated and then injected back into the seabed in a certain burial depth for permanent storage, achieving zero carbon dioxide emissions. 

The main innovation points of carbon dioxide re-injection technology are as follows: The process design technology, integrated design technology, integrated construction technology and debugging technology of supercritical CO2 booster re-injection system are developed for the first time.

The annual storage reaches 300,000 tons, equivalent to nearly 14 million trees planted every year, filling the gap in China’s marine carbon dioxide storage technology.
